J. Scott Hogue
Supervisor
James “Scott” Hogue is a board certified chaplain and certified CPE supervisor with CSCPF, working with Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, the second largest Hospice in Colorado. He has worked with hospice since April of 2006.
Previous to his work, as a chaplain, Scott was ordained in 1987 by the American Baptist Churches/USA with whom he served as a pastor for twenty five years. Scott worked with churches in Santa Barbara and Santa Ana, California and Colorado Springs and Grand Junction, Colorado. Scott grew up in Southern California, in the Los Angeles area, where he graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Youth Ministry in 1978.
Following graduation, Scott worked in public relations for a large conference center until entering Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton New Jersey where he earned his Masters of .Divinity in 1985 with an emphasis in education and pastoral counseling.
Along with his work with churches and hospice Scott has enjoyed using his graduate learning in two additional fields. He is a Stephen’s Ministry trained small group developer and trainer. He is also an Adjunct Professor for Colorado Christian University’s Western Colorado Campus. He has taught in the areas of the humanities, communication, theology, Biblical studies, history, and film/culture. Scott is entering his fifth year as an adjunct professor finding a balance between his work as a chaplain and an educator. However, the joy of CPE is that education and chaplaincy go hand in hand as people prepare to provide spiritual care and spiritual case management to people and groups in a myriad of settings.
Scott enjoys spending time with his family, riding his road bike, and reading. Scott has worked in a variety of settings, but his most adventurous vocation, along with chaplaincy, was leading bicycle tours in the Western United States and overseas in England. Scott brings a practical approach to intellectual pursuits with humor and compassion.

Abbie Kay Marschner - - In Loving Memory
Abbie Kay Marschner is lovingly remembered as the heart and soul of the Rocky Mountain Center for Spiritual Caregivers. She was our spiritual advisor and the Center's "chaplain to the chapains." Her gentle spirit and loving guidance still surrounds us as we continue to fulfill her dream and vision of offering Clinical Pastoral Education and Spiritual Care to the Grand Valley community.
She graduated from Colorado State University with a B.A. in Language and Secondary Education, has an M.A. in Counseling Psychology and became a licensed Professional Counselor in 1985. In addition, she helped start the first Montessori School in Grand Junction, CO.
In 1994 Abbie Kay became a professional advisor for “Heartbeat”, a survivor of suicide support group. In the spring of 1995 she began a small private practice called “Healing Hearts.”
In 1996 Abbie Kay was offered a CPE Chaplain internship at the Veterans Hospital and was hired in the spring of that year, continuing to work at the V.A. primarily in the Psych and Addiction program.
Concurrent for the first 4 years, she attended an off-site Episcopal theology training program called “Education for the Ministry.” In 2000 she was certified as a Pastoral Counselor.
Abbie Kay was privileged to co-facilitate CPE training with our “Founding Father”, Foy Richey and now Dee
Jaquet, our "Founding Mother" as Dee continues to carry the Chaplain torch, birthing our new Rocky Mountain Center for Spiritual Caregivers.
We miss you Abbie Kay!
